Last meeting: Sept. 21, 2018 -- QHS 57, Galesburg 34: The Blue Devils scored on every possession, giving the ball to Adonte Crider to set up Jirehl Brock as the sledgehammer. Crider had the Blue Devils' first two touchdowns and added a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Meanwhile, Brock finished with 304 yards rushing and four touchdowns.
Inside the matchup: Some may see it as a seizmic shift in the way the Blue Devils attack, but the passing game has become as efficient as the running game with senior quarterback Lucas Reis at the controls.
Reis has thrown eight touchdown passes in the first three games, while Crider has rushed for 213 yards and six scores. Reis has completed 35 of 54 passes for 376 yards with one interception. He's enjoyed using a variety of targets, namely Scott Sprick, Drake Tournear and Clay Hansen.
It's taken pressure off the running game, although the combination of Crider and Drae Humphrey remains a viable part of the offense. The running game should become more prevalent in the coming weeks as the defenses become more stout, beginning this week with the Silver Streaks.
Galesburg has one shutout and allowed just 42 total points thus far. More importantly, the Silver Streaks have forced seven turnovers and are plus-two in takeaways. Opponents are averaging 4 yards per carry and just 5 yards per pass attempt.
Silver Streaks quarterback Connor Aten has completed 34 of 70 passes for 435 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. He also has one rushing touchdown. Dillon McBride leads Galesburg on the ground with 127 yards and one touchdown on 40 carries for a team with just five touchdowns total.
