BOWLING GREEN, Mo. -- Jade Meier's walk-off double capped a three-run seventh-inning rally as the Bowling Green softball team knocked off Palmyra 9-8 on Thursday evening.
Palmyra (7-2) scored five runs in the first two innings, highlighted by a three-run home run by Bailey Lovelace that extended Palmyra's lead to 5-2. It was an 8-6 edge going to the seventh when the first Bowling Green batter reached on an error. A single and a couple of walked helped Bowling Green loaded the bases for Meier.
Collins part of Tigers' strong start
Hunter Collins collected two hits and seven RBIs to lead the Canton softball team to a 14-2 victory over Brashear at the Cotton Bowl.
Collins cracked a two-run double to center field that ignited a nine-run first inning. Collins closed the inning with another two-run double/ Brashear was held to just three hits. Canton's Abbey Hultz earned the victory as she strucko out three. She pitched three innings, struck out three and did not allow a hit.
First-inning lead lasts for Tigers
The Scotland COunty softball team scored four runs in the top of the first inning and rolled to a 10-2 victory in Lewis & Clark Conference action. The Tigers (3-6) collected five hits in the first inning, highlighted by Kaitlyn McMinn's two-run double that gave Scotland County a 4-0 lead. McMinn also went the distance in the pitcher's circle and struck out three while allowing seven hits. Katie Feeney and Hannah Feeney each had three hits for Scotland County.
Tigers take control in sixth
Kirksville scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to hand the Highland softball team a 7-2 loss. The Cougars committed four errors and allowed just two hits in the pivotal inning. cHighland's Lauren Merrell suffered the loss, allowing five hits and striking out eight.
Raiders score early, often
The North Shelby softball team scored nine runs in the first two innings combined and rolled to a 13-3 victory over Linn County.
The Raiders (4-2) walked seven times and Meg Shively connected on an RBI triple in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead. North Shelby walked seven more times in the second on the way to four runs. Natalie Thrasher earned the victory as she allowed eight hits and struck out three.
Eagles done in by perfect game
Schuyler County's Chloe Buckallew threw a perfect game, beating the Knox County softball team 3-0 Thursday in Lewis & Clark Conference play. Buckallew struck out 11. The Rams had nine hits and scored single runs in the second, fifth and sixth innings.
Rule, Bulldogs post shutout
Faith Rule struck out 10 and allowed just one hit as the Louisiana softball team cruised to a 14-0 victory over Wellsville Middleton. Gretchen Capps had two hits and four RBIs for Louisiana (1-8), including a two-run double that kickstarted an eight-run third inning.
