Former day care worker facing child porn charges has trial set in January

QUINCY -- A former day care worker facing multiple child pornography charges had his case placed on the January jury trial docket.?Nathaniel L. Caldwell appeared Tuesday in Adams County Circuit Court, where the case was placed on a docket.

His attorney, Riff Scholz, said that he recently received additional discovery from the state and needed time to review it.

Caldwell will return to court Nov. 5 for a status hearing.

Caldwell, 22, was arrested Oct. 31, 2018, on three counts of child pornography. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Nov. 15 and was later indicted on four additional counts of child pornography stemming from May 2, 2018. He pleaded not guilty to those charges on Nov. 20.

Police said the investigation started after they received information from the Illinois attorney general's Internet Crimes Against Children division.

Caldwell reportedly possessed 169 images and 17 videos of child pornography.

He worked at St. Peter School day care at the time of his arrest.

Caldwell continues to be held in the Adams County Jail on $700,000 bond.
