QUINCY -- The Quincy man charged in the Dec. 4, 2019, shooting death of another Quincy man has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Christopher T. Huckstep, 51, entered the plea to three counts of first-degree murder Wednesday in Adams County Circuit Court.
The case was placed on the March jury trial docket. Huckstep is set to return to Adams County Court on Feb. 19 for a status hearing.
If convicted, he faces between 45 years and life in the Illinois Department of Corrections. This includes a 25-year sentence enhancement because a firearm was used.
Huckstep is accused of shooting 26-year-old Emond Morris in the 700 block of Cedar after the two were reportedly involved in a domestic dispute.
The Quincy Police Department was called to the home at 3:36 a.m., and upon arrival, they found Morris dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Police said they found Huckstep a short time later in the 1200 block of North 12th. A firearm reportedly was recovered.
An Adams County grand jury indicted Huckstep on the charges Dec. 5.
He is being held in the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond.
