HANNIBAL, Mo. — Officials from Hannibal School District and Chariton Valley fiber network celebrated the completion of high-speed fiber internet connections on Friday.

Kirby Underberg, CV's CEO, said the new fiber connection provides students and faculty with a high-speed connection necessary to accommodate the district's needs.

"Access to high-speed fiber internet is essential to education," Underberg said in a release. "It allows students to fully experience e-learning and provides educators with the technology needed to employ more educational tools."

Hannibal School District Superintendent Susan Johnson said new technology has an impact on the educational process for students, teachers and administrators.

"It makes systems more efficient and productive," Johnson said. "Anytime that we can add bandwidth that will expedite the work that our staff and students do it is a celebration."

Rich Stilley, business manager for the Hannibal public school district, said all the district's buildings are fiber connected.

"We have been utilizing fiber for 12-plus years and this increase in bandwidth will allow Hannibal public schools to utilize technology in a better, smarter and faster way," Stilley said.

The establishment of the Hannibal School District's fiber connection follows CV's aggressive fiber expansion plan announcement, extending the company's services to the Hannibal community and other areas across Northern Missouri.

"We appreciate the collaboration and cooperation to expedite their timelines to bring this service to Hannibal," Johnson said.

According to CV, fiber internet allows for competitive business recruitment, leading to job opportunities, economic development and community growth.

"Technology's role in our everyday lives is becoming increasingly more important," Underberg said. "Reliable, high-speed fiber connections allow anyone the opportunity to compete in the global marketplace and not be hindered by location."

Stilley said, "This is a huge opportunity to not only the Hannibal School District, but the Hannibal community."
