Prep girls basketball roundup: Blue Devils bounce back, beat South Fulton

CAMP POINT, Ill. -- The Quincy High School girls basketball team outscored South Fulton 30-22 in the second half to win 47-43 in the Central Lady Panther Classic on Wednesday night.

Olivia Edwards, Emily Wilson and Bre Sapp all scored 11 points each for the Blue Devils with 22 of their combined 33 coming in the second half. After scoring just two points in the first half, Sapp put in five in the third and four in the fourth to help spark the Blue Devils comeback.

"Bre Sapp was great for us in the second half," QHS coach Brad Dance said. "Laci Novosel also pulled down eight rebounds, those two were a great little added bonus for us tonight."

Hannah Gould hit four 3-pointers for South Fulton and finished with 14 points.


Hornets outrace Mustangs

The Brown County girls basketball team went 9 of 13 from the free-throw line during the fourth quarter to hold on for a 33-26 victory over Unity on Wednesday night at the Central Lady Panther Classic.

The Hornets (14-6), who led 18-15 after the third quarter, were paced by Belle Koch with 10 points and Kaci McKeon with nine points. Brooklyn Stiefel and Ashlynn Arnsman led the Mustans (12-10) with seven points apiece.


Pleasant Plains takes down C-SE

Pleasant Plains defeated the Central-Southeastern girls basketball team 47-40 in the Central Lady Panther Classic on Wednesday night.

Caroline Jachino led Pleasant Plains with 15 points, eight of which came in the fourth quarter.

C-SE scored just eight points in the fourth to Pleasant Plains' 17. Kennady Marlow led the Panthers with 12 points.


Roe leads Liberty to victory

The Liberty girls basketball team won 74-71 over West Hancock Wednesday night in the Central Lady Panther Classic.

Both teams battled back and forth as they stayed within three points of each other at the end of each quarter.

Taryn Roe kept active offensively with 24 points on the night, shooting 4 for 5 from the free throw line and knocking down four 3-pointers. Three other Eagles reached double figures, with Izzy Gimm going for 15 points, Kenzy Wagner finishing with 14 points and Paige Knuffman chipping in 11 points along with nine rebounds.

West Hancock's Malarie Ross had a game-high 29 points, including five 3-pointers, and Josi Radel went for 22 points with four 3-pointers.


Pirates squeak out win

The Hannibal girls basketball team defeated Washington 44-42 in the Warrenton Winter Shootout Wednesday night. The Pirates led 23-13 at halftime and 36-29 after the third quarter, but the Bluejays nearly came back to win by outscoring Hannibal 13-8 in the fourth quarter.

Abby Baumann scored 15 points for Hannibal and Ingrid Figas finished with 14 for Washington.


Spartans rise over Wildcats

The North Greene girls basketball team won 36-30 over Western Wednesday night in the North Greene Lady Spartan Classic. The Spartans pulled away in the second half with the help of Cami Hurt's seven fourth-quarter points.

Lakeleigh Brown finished with 17 points for North Greene and Haley Flores had 10 for Western.
