LEBANON, Ill. -- An impeccable start offensively allowed the Quincy University women's basketball team to avoid the trappings that fuel McKendree's pressure.

That didn't last as long as the Hawks needed.

The Bearcats erased a 12-point deficit by amping up the defensive pressure, scored 44 points in the second half of Thursday night's Great Lakes Valley Conference game and finished a 68-63 victory at the Harry Statham Sports Center by forcing 18 turnovers.

McKendree scored 15 points off those turnovers.

"We panicked with it," QU coach Jeni Garber told WGEM radio when asked about McKendree's press. "We made some careless passes and tried to dribble through it. We weren't aggressive against it."

The Hawks (6-11, 2-7 GLVC) took away those worries early. They scored the game's first 12 points and didn't allow the Bearcats to score until more than five minutes had elapsed, but Madison Hart's jumper with 4:33 to go in the first quarter changed everything.

McKendree went on a 9-0 run to close the quarter, then erased an eight-point deficit over the final four minutes of the half. An 11-3 run allowed the Bearcats to tie the game at 24 at halftime.

In the second half, McKendree scored five of the final seven points of the third quarter to break a 41-41 tie and extended the lead by scoring the first six points of the fourth quarter.

"It was nice for us to finish," McKendree coach Kari Kerkhoff said on her postgame show. "In close games lately, we've been playing not to lose. We didn't do that tonight. We stayed confident and we stayed aggressive."

QU senior forward Alexa Low recorded her third straight double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds to go along with seven blocked shots as she became the program's career leader in blocked shots now with 169. Aleksandra Petrovic added 16 points for the Hawks.
