EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Quincy University women's basketball coach Jeni Garber could sense something was off well before her team tipped off against Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon.

"This morning at shootaround I didn't get a good feel," Garber said in her postgame interview with WGEM Radio on Saturday. "You don't want to put a whole lot of stock into shootarounds, but I just didn't get a good feel. We had a little talk and tried to shake them and wake them up a little bit but they came out a little bit sluggish."

That feeling and slow start turned into a 65-41 defeat for the Hawks at the hands of the Screaming Eagles in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, a loss in which QU never led and trailed by as much as 32.

Garber called a timeout just 90 seconds into the game as USI (11-5, 7-3 GLVC) scored on its first two possessions and the Hawks turned the ball over on two of its first three possessions.

"It is frustrating that they were still sleeping in that first minute. We just weren't moving, we weren't with it," Garber said. "We had to give them a little wake-up call, but it shouldn't have to take that."

Turnovers were the biggest issue for Hawks (6-12, 2-8 GLVC), as they gave the ball away 27 times which immediately led to 28 USI points.

"The turnovers were just because we weren't aggressive enough," Garber said. "We seemed really worn down, really slow. We weren't cutting and moving very well, we were passing it right to them. We just didn't show up from the very beginning."

No Hawks player reached double figures, as Alexa Low led in scoring with eight points. Low also pulled down a team-high nine rebounds. Marta Rivera chipped in seven points off the bench while Aleksandra Petrovic and Kennedy Price each had six points, with Price hitting two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.

Ashlynn Brown and Ashley Johnson each had 12 points to lead a balanced USI attack.
