Pontoosuc man to make first court appearance in death of his father

PONTOOSUC, Ill. -- The Pontoosuc man accused of killing his father Monday is expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday in Hancock County Circuit Court.

The Hancock County Sheriff's Department said charges are expected to be filed against Andrew De Haven, 36, in the death of Michael De Haven, 67.

The Sheriff's Department said that it was called about 8:30 a.m. Monday from a Pontoosuc resident who said that their neighbor, Andrew De Haven, asked him to call the sheriff because he had killed his father.

Andrew Haven was arrested without incident, and the Sheriff's Department said he told them that he killed his father. Michael De Haven's body was found in the home.

Andrew De Haven is being held in the Hancock County Jail.

Assisting in the investigation is the Dallas City Police Department, the Illinois State Police, an Illinois State Police crime scene investigator, the Hancock County state's attorney's office and the Hancock County coroner's office.
