INDIANAPOLIS -- Nursing a three-point lead with four minutes remaining in the third quarter Thursday night, the Quincy University women's basketball team ran straight into a wall offensively.

A brick wall.

Indianapolis went on a 31-3 run over an 11-minute, 33-second span of the second half in which Quincy missed 15 consecutive shots, misfired on eight straight 3-point attempts and turned the ball over seven times. It made a 76-51 loss in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at Nicoson Hall unavoidable.

"We struggled shooting the basketball," QU coach Jeni Garber told WGEM radio on her postgame show. "We had a lot of good looks. They weren't falling for us in the second half."

The Hawks (7-16, 3-12 GLVC) went into halftime with all the momentum. They scored 22 points in the second quarter, turning a 24-15 deficit into a 37-32 lead by going 7 of 12 from the field and 4 of 5 from 3-point range.

That success was predicated on ball movement and unselfish play. The Hawks had six assists on seven field goals in the second quarter and eight assists overall in the first half.

"We worked the ball really well against their zone," Garber said.

Quincy had just two assists in the second half. The inability to make a shot impacted that.

Quincy freshman guard Laney Lantz scored on a short jumper with 8:16 remaining in the third quarter for a 41-32 lead. The Hawks didn't make another shot until Dami Adeyinka scored with 2:32 remaining in the fourth quarter.

During the 15:44 that elapsed between made field goals, the Hawks went 0 of 20 from the field and 0 of 11 from 3-point range.

"You could feel Indianapolis having the energy and the confidence," Garber said. "We didn't. They dropped their heads and got down on themselves."

Aleksandra Petrovic led Quincy with 11 points, while Lantz had nine points. Laura Thomas led four Indianapolis players in double figures with 15 points.
