LAKE ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- A Quincy, Ill., man escaped injury in a Friday morning crash that killed four and seriously injured another driver.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported a 2009 Ford F-250 driven by Elijah C. Henderson, 29, of St. Charles, was eastbound on Interstate 64, west of Highway 364, at 10:38 a.m. The patrol said the Ford traveled off the north side of the road through the cable barrier and started to overturn before hitting head-on a westbound 2014 Honda Odyssey driven by Lesley D. Prather, 40, of Louisville, Ky., and a westbound 2017 Acura MDX driven by Frank F. Huber, 69, of Quincy.
Prather and a passenger, Carrie R. McCaw, 44, of Louisville, Ky., died at the crash scene at 11:08 a.m.. Two other passengers, both 12-year-old girls of Louisville, were taken by St. Charles County Ambulance to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital Lake St. Louis, where one of the girls died at 11:21 a.m. The other girl died at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital at 1:08 p.m.
Henderson was taken by St. Charles County Ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis with serious injuries.
Henderson and Huber were wearing seat belts, the patrol said. It's not known if Prather and McCaw were wearing seat belts, but the girls were not.
The patrol was assisted by the police departments in Lake St. Louis, St. Peters, O'Fallon and Louisville, Ky., and the Kentucky State Police.
