NEW LONDON, Mo. -- Deputies of the Marion County Sheriff's Department arrested a New London man on Tuesday after they say he attempted to evade them.

Ralls County Sheriff Gerry Dinwiddie said deputies were dispatched to Casey's General Store, 413 West First St., after a caller said a driver had been traveling recklessly. Officers later discovered the vehicle had been reported as stolen from Columbia on Saturday.

The driver was later identified as Jeramie G. Charlton, 27, of New London.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they say Charlton put the vehicle in reverse and drove into the deputy's patrol car. They say he then drove the vehicle forward, striking another vehicle and crashing concrete pylons in the parking lot.

Deputies said Charlton then fled the parking lot in the vehicle. During a pursuit, Dinwiddie said Charlton appeared to intentionally strike another sheriff's patrol vehicle, a Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle and another vehicle before stopping and attempting to flee on foot.

Charlton was taken into custody by the Sheriff's Office and the highway patrol. He already had a Marion County probation violation warrant. Additional charges may be filed.

Charlton was convicted in March 2019 on second-degree burglary and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.

Two Ralls County deputies suffered minor injuries and were treated and released at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
