Quincy man dies in motorcycle crash south of Hannibal

HANNIBAL, Mo. -- A Quincy, Ill., man died in a Monday afternoon motorcycle crash south of Hannibal.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said that a 1999 Harley-Davidson Electra Glide driven by John M. Thompson, 48, of Quincy, was traveling south on Mo. 79, 3 miles south of Hannibal, at 1:45 p.m. when it went off the right side of the road and overturned. Thompson was ejected from the motorcycle, which came to rest in a wooded area.

Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene by Ralls County Coroner Robert VanWinkle at 2:45 p.m. He was taken to James O'Donnell Funeral Home.

The patrol was assisted by the Ralls County Sheriff's Department, Ralls County Rural Fire Department and Marion County Ambulance.
