Tyrant at the top of Illinois government is not listening

To The Herald-Whig:

The Constitution of the United States of America starts with "We the people," not "I the Governor."

Gov. J.B. Pritzker stated, "I don't have sympathy for those so intent on disregarding science and logic."

Who's science and who's logic? The so-called experts continue to contradict themselves. Dr. Anthony Fauci stated in the New England Journal of Medicine that "the overall clinical consequences of COVID-19 may be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza."

He also stated in 2009, "You can't isolate yourself from the rest of the world for the whole flu season, but use some good judgment."

Yet Dr. Fauci has used fear tactics to get political and public buy-in. What logic justifies putting 38 million people out of work to potentially contain a virus that you can't hide from?

Pritzker further stated that leaders were not elected to do what's easy, they were elected to do what's right. No, Gov. Pritzker, they were elected to represent the people. So if the people want the economy to open up, then the people should be allowed to resume business without consequences and threats of license revocations from you! Pritzker further stated, "I think everybody understands that what I've been doing is following the science and the data and doing what's best for our economy."

No, I don't understand, and no, you haven't. Why 28 days instead of 14 days as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention? Why hold Adams County's economy hostage to Champaign County's COVID-19 cases? What scientific data are you using? Are you including the second and third order effects of quarantine in your decisions? There are scientific estimates that more people will die of delayed diagnosis to cancer, heart disease, substance abuse, suicide and malnutrition in the United States than have died of COVID-19 in the world.

Thomas Jefferson once stated, "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."

The leaders of Adams County have been speaking up, but the tyrant at the top is not listening. It's time for "the People" to speak louder by deeds without threat of repercussions. This is the United States of American, not a dictatorship.
