To The Herald-Whig:
Little did President Reagan know, among other things, that the phrase he coined "... government is the problem," would become the core tenet of Republican governance.
The Trump administration in its 31/2 years (seems like longer) has become the epitome of ineptitude from the top down. (It "trickles down," if you will.) Additionally, the coronavirus has shown that incompetence in government can kill. Unfortunately for us, this little experiment in Republican governance, with its serial incompetence and rampant corruption, runs the real risk of also defining the United States as second rate, and grotesquely altering the idea of American exceptionalism.
The supporters of this administration, like frogs in a boiling pot, aren't now aware of their predicament, and most will never gain that insight. Instead, they will blithely boil away, confident in their belief that the water is fine and it is the others who are the troublemakers and who spoil a perfect day at the beach.
