QUINCY -- Quincy residents are being warned about an increase in vehicle thefts.

The Quincy Police Department said 10 vehicles have been reported stolen since June 6. Most of the reports have involved vehicles that were unlocked, and some had keys left inside.

Several vehicles have been recovered from Quincy, Adams County, Chicago and Missouri.

Police said most thefts occurred west of 12th Street, and it's unknown if those were isolated incidents or part of a more organized venture. An investigation is ongoing.

Police reminded residents that vehicle thefts and burglaries are often crimes of opportunity and recommended that vehicles be secured. Keys and other valuables should be removed from vehicles to avoid attracting attention.
