Bombs Away: Motto went from funny saying to Eagles' theme

The first time Zach Short said the phrase, 'Hit bombs,' the Knox County softball players didn't know what to think. "We just kind of laughed at him," senior pitcher Katie Hamlin said. That's what Short wanted. The first-year coach wanted to develop a camaraderie with the players in the early part of the season. He used that same philosophy as a high school baseball player at Hamilton, Ill., when he dug into the batter's box. He wanted to stick to that even at the expense of being laughed at.
