QUINCY -- Plans are afoot to open a combination Dunkin' Donuts restaurant and Baskin-Robbins ice cream shop in September at 2600 Broadway.

Plans for the store were announced Thursday by DLH Food Services LLC of Pekin, which already operates three Dunkin' Donuts franchises in Illinois -- in Normal, Pekin and Washington.

"Let everyone know we are coming to Quincy," said Yonas Hagos, one of the principals involved in opening the store in Quincy.

"I've been wanting to come to Quincy for two years now, and it's finally happening," Hagos said in a telephone interview Thursday night.

Dunkin' Donuts announced in April 2015 that it had 591 restaurants in Illinois and was trying to recruit franchisees in Quincy and some other Central Illinois cities. Hagos said he was delighted to be awarded the franchise after he visited Quincy and saw the potential.

"I am excited," he said. "I love that town."

Hagos said the store will be in a 3,000-square-foot building that's under construction. He said the store will employ about 60 people initially for the store's grand opening, which will probably occur in September. But he said the work crew will eventually be tapered back to 35 or 40.

Hagos launched a Facebook site Thursday declaring that the Quincy store will be "coming soon." He said he is in business with Ronald Lardi, who will play a key role in the Quincy operation.

Hagos said he plans to schedule a job fair before the store's opening.
