QUINCY -- Area artist Brenda Benson will be featured in the Art Center's satellite location at the Quincy Medical Group Gastroenterology Center at 1118 Hampshire. This exhibit is now open to the public and will be on view through Dec. 12.

Brenda Benson of Monroe City, Mo., was born and raised in Hannibal, Mo. Benson received her degree in art from Truman State University and taught art for 26 years in public schools. Since retiring, Benson has focused on creating artwork with an emphasis on watercolor paintings.

Benson pushes the boundaries of traditional watercolor through a unique method. She paints on paper with brightly colored watercolors, cuts and folds the paper into unique shapes, then attaches it to a grid.

Benson is part of Alliance Art Gallery in Hannibal and has shown regionally. She has won awards through Watercolor U.S.A., the Mary S. Oakley & Lee Lindsay Artist Showcase, and the ORiGINALE art show hosted by Hannibal Arts Council Gallery.

Artists interested in exhibiting at QMG can submit a proposal to the Art Center. More information can be found at or by calling 217-223-5900.
