QUINCY — Quincy Deputy Chief Doug VanderMaiden says local law enforcement personnel are conducting a homicide investigation following a shooting death that occurred Sunday morning on South 13th.

VanderMaiden confirmed the victim of the incident was Quincy resident Dennis Green, 53.

Green's body was found about 3:45 a.m. on the front porch of a house in the 800 block of South 13th. VanderMaiden said officers were sent to the site after receiving a report of shots having been fired.

Green was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was scheduled for late Sunday in Bloomington.

Multiple shell casings were recovered from the scene.

The police report said there were people inside the residence when the shooting occurred, but no one else was injured.

A neighbor, Mathew Unglesbee, told The Herald-Whig's news-gathering partners at WGEM that a car pulled up in front of the South 13th residence and “someone in the car shot Green” while he was on the front porch.

Although VanderMaiden did not mention any suspects at this time, he said the police department has no reason to believe there is any further danger to the public and this was an isolated incident.

VanderMaiden said the investigation is ongoing and the police department is asking anyone with information that may be tied to this incident — or anything leading up to it — to contact the department directly or through Crime Stoppers Hotline at 217-228-4474.
