Four hurt in Pike County, Mo., crash

VANDALIA, Mo. -- A one-vehicle traffic crash Thursday afternoon in Pike County seriously injured four people.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports a Ford passenger car driven by Kitty M. Brunner, 44, of Curryville, was westbound on Route 5, one-half mile west of Pike County Road 326 at 1 p.m. The vehicle traveled off the road and struck a mailbox, then overcorrected and returned to the roadway before traveling back off the right side of the roadway, striking an embankment, overturning and catching fire.

Brunner was taken by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur.

Three passengers also were hurt in the crash. Destiny Emerson, 19, and Joseph Nancy, 20, both of Curryville, were taken by Van-Far EMS to Hannibal Regional Hospital. Justin Milstead,18, of Curryville, was taken by Survival Flight to Mercy.

The patrol reported Brunner was wearing a seat belt, but the passengers were not.
