Three injured when car lands in sinkhole in Perry

PERRY, Mo. -- Three people were injured Tuesday night when a vehicle struck a sinkhole in a road in Perry.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a 1997 Toyota RAV 4 driven by Evan M. Woodhurst, 18, of Perry, was traveling westbound on Washington Lane in Perry at 6 p.m. when it struck a sinkhole, then went airborne and came to rest on a culvert in the sinkhole.

Woodhurst was taken by Ralls County Ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital with minor injuries. A passenger, Vanessa L. Davis, 20, of Perry, was taken by Ralls County Ambulance to Hannibal Regional Hospital then flown by Survival Flight to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries. Another passenger, Bradley M. Branham, 18, of Perry, was taken by Ralls County Ambulance to Hannibal Regional with moderate injuries.

None of the three were wearing seat belts.

The patrol was assisted by the Ralls County Sheriff's Department and the Perry Fire Department.
